Deciding what to give to dad
Jun 24th, 2007 by Chandra
June is the month of fathers. I had been thinking real hard about what gift to give to my father. Last year, I remember having given him a nice watch because his watch has gotten old and I just felt like he needed a new one.
This year, while I was visiting some websites, I came across several gift ideas for fathers on father’s day. As I have been particularly a tech freak, I figured I should give my father a new tech gift for father’s day. But the question is which one? What tech gift would not intimidate my 60 year old father?
Maybe I should give him a digital camera. He has not owned any camera in his life and perhaps it is time that he should own one. I am thinking of buying him a Kodak EasyShare C530 5MP Digital Camera. It is not an expensive camera, in fact at amazon.com, I saw that in only costs at least $89. I thought of this product because it is very easy to use. Perhaps I can just set everything in automatic mode so that all my dad has to do is point and click. And when he downloads the pictures, all he has to do is press a button or two and with the camera’s easy share feature, and it should not pose a difficulty for him.
And then it crossed my mind that my dad also loves to listen to music and his current sound system is quite old. So another option for his father’s day gift would be the Sony BRAVIA DAV-HDX265 Home Theater System. I scoured the internet and found that the price is approximately $300. I think it is fair, I mean, even if it was expensive I would still buy this for my dad. I am sure my dad would love to watch his favorite shows or listen to oldies music using the CD/DVD players.
And it dawn on me that if this year I am going to give him the home theater system, maybe I can save money so that next year I can buy him a flat TV. I figured that a flat TV would be perfect in their room so he and my mom could enjoy watching TV together before they go to sleep. I searched online and I was attracted to the Toshiba 15DLV77 15″ LCD HDTV. The TV costs about $500 but I think the price may get lower by next year. And since the TV already has a built in DVD player, I had thought that if I bought the home theater system, maybe there is a special deal to drop the CD/DVD player and get a lower price.
For now, I still have to make a thorough accounting on the existing entertainment system they have at home so I can think of the perfect package to buy, as well as coming up with the money. This is not to say that I’m cutting on the cost. I love them and would spend all my money for them, but I have been raised to be a wise consumer so there is no stopping me from getting the best deals wherever I find them.
