Protect Your Privacy Online through Proxy Websites
Jan 11th, 2008 by Stephen Palmer
One of the realities of the internet is that it doesn’t give you any privacy at all. Every time we visit a website, the website’s server will register our IP address. Think of your IP address as your personal address. It’s very unique and it can pinpoint your exact location where ever you are. If you’re wondering why sexual predators and internet bullies are tracked, IP addresses are the first thing that are checked by internet security experts. On the other hand IP addresses are used by some hackers to track your internet activity. That’s why it’s always recommended to visit safe websites. One visit to websites that have malwares and spywares will lock in to your IP and send you pop-ups or worst hack into your hard disk for personal information.
But you don’t have to be content with that situation. The US Bill of Rights and UN’s Universal Declaration of Human Rights has clearly stipulated that no one should be forced to give out any personal information without their permission. You can actually cover up your internet activity and your IP address by using a proxy website.
A proxy website is where you can cloak your internet activity. When you’re surfing for information on other websites using a proxy website, instead of your IP address, the proxy’s address will be registered. All you need to do is to type in the proxy website of the address you would like to visit. That way, instead of your IP that will show up, the proxy’s IP will be registered, completely cloaking your IP address.
There are so many practical uses of using proxy websites. Some of the websites specifically block some IP address based on your location. Using proxy websites, you can actually “fool” the blocking and access the websites. That’s already two things: privacy and the ability to go to other sites that you thought can’t be accessed.
But be careful in selecting proxy websites to use. Some of them are “fronts” which actually monitors your internet activity. NEVER use proxy websites to buy anything online. That way you can be secured in case something bad happens. This time, your IP address will work in your favor since you can show those that investigate your claim that you have actually bought something from that website.
Proxify.com and Proxy.org are two of the popular websites that you can use. Some of them could be used for free while others need a little payment so that you can use their proxy website to watch videos and upload photos.
Remember to use these proxy websites only for good uses. This is particularly handy when you are visiting a website that doesn’t look really secured. If you’re planning to do something bad about the proxy websites, beware. They are smart enough to locate you if they really wanted to. But with a proxy website, you are just using a basic service of cloaking yourself geographically and should be able to websites that are IP addresses specific.
