Saving on your holiday

Every once in a while we take a break from the pressures of work and we want to go to some place to relax and unwind. Of course we want to take all worries off our minds and so we want to get the best deals out of our money. Travel does not always come easy. The airfare, the hotel and other expenses can be a cause of worry and may even spoil our vacation but with careful planning and intensive research, the problems associated with holiday cost may be totally eliminated.
There are two extremes when booking for a travel. Booking early or booking late may spell a difference in the cost of fare. Travel is like any other business governed by the laws of supply and demand. According to many reputable travel agencies, booking at least 10 months ahead of the travel schedule may get one cheaper seats while booking during the last few days before the departure time may also potentially have one avail of unsold seats and hotel rooms at a cheaper price. To get the best of both scenarios, it may be wise to constantly monitor the trends in fare by regularly visiting travel websites.
Although airline companies have been giving year round promos, it is sometimes a good idea to get holiday packages. For instance, if you get an airfare and hotel package and even including car rental, a package deal may be cheaper altogether. Hotels and airlines have special deals that can give customers cheaper packages.
If you want to really save big amounts, schedule your holiday on an off-peak season. As mentioned earlier, travel is governed by supply and demand and on off seasons, the demand is low and travel packages could be slashed to up to more than fifty percent of regular costs. And since this is off season, you might even enjoy your vacation as there will be fewer people swarming hotels and resorts so you have more time on your own to enjoy peace and relaxation.
If you want, you may go to a country or any place and just rent bicycles instead of commuting or renting a car. This way, you can enjoy nature at its best without helping destroy it. You will have more time to interact with locals on your bike and your time will be more flexible because you will not have to adjust to bus or train schedules.
If you have ever heard of eco-tourism, go for it. Ecotourism is about going to some natural place managed by the community instead of a commercial hotel or resort enterprise. Your place to stay may be in some native cottage or some villager’s house. The profit from the money you are spending will go to the community so they can manage their tourism resources as well as protect their natural habitat.
Finally, if you really want to get the best from your money, have your holiday in some third world country or any country whose currency is a lot lower than yours. Your dollar will enjoy higher conversion rate and you can spend more to enjoy!
