Three Video Mash-Up Websites
Nov 15th, 2007 by Stephen Palmer
Before we present three websites for video mash-ups let me explain first what a video mash-up is. There are so many video sharing websites now that more often than not, each of these sites have their own “claim to fame” video playlist that makes you want to go back there from time to time.
But with video mash-up, you don’t have to go to different sites just to watch your favorite videos. All you need is to go create an account in any of the video mash-up sites, embed the code or link of your favorite video and watch it there. Mash-up in a technical sense is a collection of something and video mash-ups are a collection of videos from different sites. Now for the video mash-up sites:
Splashcast.net – right at the home page you’ll see different channels dedicated to known artists or sports stars. Just click in any of the artists and some of their videos will show up. Unfortunately, most of the music videos don’t seem to play as planned since most of them are not available from the original source. But the good thing is that you can actually create your own channel, or you can search through thousands of channels available in their website. If you have an account in Facebook, you can launch their application right at your Facebook account. You can also make some changes in your Splashcast.net account in your Facebook page.
The Good: Facebook console
The Inconvenient: Video reloads when “full screen” is clicked
Yoinkd.com – a user friendly interface will greet you when you visit yoinkd.com. Using their mediabox, you can search for other videos and play it in the same mediabox. There are also popular channels you can check out. If you like their video, you can just get the link and play it in your mediabox, your main tool most of the time. You can actually get a pop-up version of mediabox. The interface of the mediabox also has a striking resemblance with an iPhone but is nowhere related to Apple or to the popular mobile phone. While the video is playing, you can still browse in other songs. Hit on the “back” button and your video will be transformed into a mini-video located in the upper right corner of your mediabox.
The Good: Cool user interface
The Inconvenient: Where’s the full screen?
WorldTV.com – the website is the newest addition to the video mash-up players, introduced during the NewTeeVee convention. The website has a very simplistic approach in creating video channels. The home page will encourage you to create a play list. No sign-up is required as your channel name could be shared to others. You will also be provided with link to where you can edit the play list. Only concern is that the play list could easily be accessed. If you are interested in a channel of WorldTV.com, all you need is to add /editor to the page. If you’re lucky, the editor will not have a password so you can go in and take over the channel by creating a password for that account.
The Good: User friendly tools
The Inconvenient: No Security
