Your Home as a Wireless Network

Wifi stands for Wireless Fidelity or better known as wireless network. Having wifi in your home is a lot easier these days because of the price of wireless network devices and the constantly rising demand of this type of products. Not to mention gaming consoles that more or less requires a wifi so that it connect to internet for network gaming.
Aside from games, one of the key benefits of having a wireless network is total freedom from wires. If we can successfully set up wifi in our homes, there is no need for cables if we wanted to connect to the internet.
To set up a wireless network in your home, you need to have a wireless router. Internet providers usually provide their customers with a modem and it’s up to you if you want to distribute the internet connection in your home. The router is a gadget that doesn’t only give access to the internet to different computers but it can also be used to connect different computers and create a local area network or LAN. If you have a wireless router, it’s basically the same with the regular router except there will be no wires to connect. If you’re planning to have wider coverage, the more expensive your wireless router could get.
Which brings us to the hardware requirements for your computer to access the router. Most of the brand new laptops today are already capable of connecting to wifi without any additional gadgets. If you’re planning to buy one today, be sure to purchase a laptop with wireless capability. Just think of hanging out in your favorite coffee shop while browsing through the internet. But if your laptop doesn’t have the capability to connect to a wireless network, buy a wireless LAN card. Your laptop should have a slot for that type of wireless card. For computers, there are also wireless LAN cards. But if you don’t want those type of hassle for your computer and laptops, there are wireless network adapters that can get you connected through your USB. They come in different sizes and there even USB wireless network adapters that are only as big as your regular thumb drives.
Once you’ve set up your wireless network in your home, it’s time to implement the necessary security measures. Even at the comforts of your home, your wireless connection could be taken over or could be spied with hackers. The best thing you could do is to go with the basics: set up a password for those who wanted to connect to the wireless network. Most of the routers go with the default user name of admin without any passwords. That’s just too easy for the hackers to access and spy on your internet activities.
Setting up a wireless network is really easy as long as you have the correct devices. Most of these come with easy to follow instructions that anyone could follow. Just make sure that the security of your wireless connection is ensured to have a fun yet secured internet environment.
